With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

Challenge

Hallo!

How is it going?

I have been very busy in my first week in Zürich but I have to admit that I am so glad being here. I am enjoying the job quite a lot and the life here is quite good as well. Of course it’s totally different from London but I like it.

It’s more relaxed rather than London and sometimes it reminds me to my homeborn city Salamanca. About the language here almost everything is in German but to be honest you can do lots of things in English but in the end I will have to learn German and I think it can be a great opportunity because everything around me is in German, most of the information, the people talking… Even after one week I am starting to recognise some words and expressions in German when the people is talking or when I read something, so it’s just a matter of time and some self studying to get used to the language but to be honest it’s quite triky… One thing that surprise me from Zürich it’s that when you meet something they use to give you three kisses in contrast with Spain that we use to give only two or even with UK that they don’t use that way to greeting, they only use the hand. Also this monday it was bank holiday and I have to admit that I really enjoy the day even not knowing the tradition quite good but I don’t know why people say that the swiss are bored. Since I am here I’ve seen a lot of things that confirms the opposite. The first weekend I saw a battle with pillows in a street… very funny and the people are very nice.

Ok, after this “brief” introduction of what I’ve done the last days, now begins the explanation of why I chose that title for this post. Since I left my home 8 months ago aprox, my life has been a challenge most of the days for different reasons and I have to admit that I like the challenges. I think it’s something that keep you alive trying to achieve everything you want every single day. So I was saying the challenges are keeping me quite busy from time to time and now it’s waiting for me a difficult one, trying to find an apartment in Zürich, because my company they only pay for me the first month and then I have to find something by my self. At least this month I have a place to live quite nice by the way. Anyway, I heard from different sources that find a place in Switzerland it was even more difficult than in London but I thought that maybe people were overacting but unfortunally they were right because on Monday I went to see my first apartment. The place it was quite good and with a reasonable price but more expensive than London. But with me there were about 30 pleope more. It was incredible, we fill the apartment. Here they use a curious system, the agency gives you one form that you have to fill up with all your data and send them back by post and then they will decide which tenant choose, and this week they have another two days to show the apartment, so maybe for one place we can be almost 60 people traying to get the same one… So I think it’s going to be impossible… In London I spent like 12 days but staying all day looking for places. Here the problem is that I am working every day so I don’t know what I am going to do but I won’t give it up. I won’t stop until I find a great place to live. If I managed to get here and get an awesome job this is piece of cake.

Anyway let’s see. Today I am going to see 3 apartments. They look nice and they are quite cheaper. Let’s see how many people we are for the same place.

Wish me luck!!!

Auf Wiedersehen!
